Terry Gnazzo was a young woman probably not very worried about her fertility when she initially began using an intrauterine device, or IUD, prescribed by her doctor. When she was informed that it caused an infection, she received antibiotics, still probably not overly concerned about her fertility. Yet, years later she was to discover that, unknowingly, her past IUD use had led to her infertility. When she ultimately sued the manufacturer of the device, her case was lost on summary judgment when the trial court found that the statute of limitations had expired. On appeal, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled on the lower court’s application of Connecticut’s statute of limitations.
