Poem of 10 lines

For this second poem assignment, we’re going to work on techniques of narration. Follow the guidelines below, and please let me know if you have any questions:

1. Your poem should tell a story or part of a story. In other words, it doesn’t have to have a beginning, middle, and end, but it should suggest a larger world and a larger overall story.

2. Select one of the photos reproduced below. DON’T write about your response to the picture; instead write the scene that suggests itself to you from the photograph. We’ll talk a little more about this in class in case you have questions.

3. You can be in the poem yourself, but you don’t have to be.

4. Keep in mind all the characteristics of a good poem we’ve discussed in class while you’re writing.

5. Poem must be at least 10 lines.
