Many of us can think of leaders we have come to admire, be they historical figures, pillars of the industry we work in, or leaders we know personally. The leadership of individuals such as Abraham Lincoln and Margaret Thatcher has been studied and discussed repeatedly. However, you may have interacted with leaders you feel demonstrated equally competent leadership without ever having a book written about their approaches.

What makes great leaders great? Every leader is different, of course, but one area of commonality is the leadership philosophy that great leaders develop and practice. A leadership philosophy is basically an attitude held by leaders that acts as a guiding principle for their behavior. While formal theories on leadership continue to evolve over time, great leaders seem to adhere to an overarching philosophy that steers their actions.

Personal Leadership Philosophies

Develop and submit a personal leadership philosophy that reflects what you think are characteristics of a good leader. Use the scholarly resources on leadership you selected to support your philosophy statement. Your personal leadership philosophy should include the following:

  • A description of your core values
  • A personal mission/vision statement
  • An analysis of your CliftonStrengths Assessment summarizing the results of your profile
  • A description of two key behaviors that you wish to strengthen
  • A development plan that explains how you plan to improve upon the two key behaviors you selected and an explanation of how you plan to achieve your personal vision. Be specific and provide examples.
  • Be sure to incorporate your colleagues’ feedback on your CliftonStrengths Assessment from this Module’s Discussion 2.

Discussion    Top 5 Signature Themes of Talent     I found my signature theme report very informative. I think it is great that after completing short questionnaire its is possible to find out so many useful information about yourself. I think it is useful because it gives a list of strengths and it can help you to choose your career path based on that.  After completing strengths finder I found out that my top five themes of talent are: Ideation, Intellection, Input, Competition and Significance. I think that it is pretty relevant and u can see myself having all these strengths. I also liked learning about each of the strength by reading the report. For example I really like how authors described competition “Competition is rooted in comparison. When you look at the world, you are instinctively aware of other people’s performance. Their performance is the ultimate yardstick. No matter how hard you tried, no matter how worthy your intentions, if you reached your goal but did not outperform your peers, the achievement feels hollow” (Gallup Inc., 2020).  Two Core Values, Strengths, Characteristics to Strengthen  Two core values I would like to improve are self-awareness and open-mindedness. I believe that it is very important to be self-aware, this will help to improve my weaknesses and be aware of them. Open mindedness is another characteristic that I think needs some improvement. Such leaders as Winston Churchill, Marin Luter King, Nelson Mandela, Abraham Lincoln and so on, they all are great examples of leaders, but all have different styles and types of leadership.  For my personal statement I asked myself what is the inside portrait of good leader? How I can describe a good leader to a person who is not in a medical field?   My personal Mission/Vision Statement will be: Leadership as a form of serving in order to make a difference in a team.  In my opinion leader should be always available for the team in order to help and make the flow easier. For example, in nursing world good leader will always stepdown from his/her role and help in cases of emergency, or if unit is short staffed manager will fill in the position. I think it is very important to be able to rely on your leader this way.    An analysis of CliftonStregnths Assessment    I found the assignment to complete CliftonStregnths very thoughtful and very useful for our future careers.
